TrueCrypt – An Encrypting Tool [Freeware]
As it pronounce as TrueCrypt, I assume you might have an idea on what this tool is all about. Well, I’d say simply it’s encrypting tool and as the same time it does the decryption part too… Obviously!!!! that’s the feature of an encryption tool where users needs to have the both encrypting & de-crypting, if not we all will be in a trouble to view the DATAS which are encrypted. I’ve been using this freeware for a long time, but I’d start to make a review since most of my fellow friends were inquiring about such tools.
So why TrueCrypt
TrueCrypt is a software application used for on-the-fly encryption (OTFE). It is free in terms of cost and commercial usage, and open source. It can create a virtual encrypted disk within a file or encrypt a partition or (under MS Windows except Windows 2000) the entire storage device (pre-boot authentication). This tool enables you to create a virtual encrypted disk within a file and mount it as a virtual drive, that can be accessed via a drive letter. Any file that is stored on this virtual drive is automatically encrypted on-the-fly, and can only be accessed while the drive is mounted with the correct password or key. TrueCrypt supports a variety of encryption algorithms, including AES-256, Blowfish (448-bit key), CAST5, Serpent, Triple DES, and Twofish. Other features include support for FAT32 or NTFS formatting, hidden volumes, hotkeys for mounting/dismounting and more. TrueCrypt can be installed on a portable drive unless you want to encrypt your system partitions.
In simple terms, this tool support Cross Platforms, meaning an encrypted drive on Windows platform can also be decrypted (mount) on a Linux, Mac… etc. Meanwhile, TrueCrypt is avilable for most of the Operating Systems unlikely for few.
Note: Since TrueCrypt is an Encryption Tool, please make sure you’re always aware what you’re dealing with. Because, DATAs can be lost at anytime of a simple carelessness.
Geek Opinion: Facts that I suggest you to use TrueCrypt is that it supports Cross-Platforms, Portable Availability (can be used as portable), FOSS tool (Free Open-Source Software) & many more. This way more better than Bit-Locker which is only available in Windows (Win7).
